Product Grouping
Last updated: August 5, 2025
Feature Overview
Products Grouping on PDP allows you to show related products together on a product page. These products may be similar in style, color, size, or type, but are listed as separate products in your store. When a customer views one product, they can easily explore the others without needing to go back and search.
This creates a smooth shopping experience while letting you keep separate pricing, stock levels, reviews, and pages for each item.
Common use cases:
Showing the same t-shirt in different colors or fits
Offering different pack sizes of the same product
Grouping similar items like cream, gel, or lotion versions of the same line
Configuration
Step 1: Set up product groupings in Shopify
Each product in the group should have a special product list field (metafield) that connects it to the other related products.
For example:
The red t-shirt links to the blue and green ones
The blue one links to red and green
And so on
You don’t need to repeat all the product details—just add the connection through a single metafield in Shopify.
Step 2: Choose how it appears
In your store editor (Studio), you can add a block called “Product Grouping” to your product page layout. This is what displays the other products.
You can choose how grouped items will look:
As small text links (e.g., Red, Blue, Green)
As clickable images or thumbnails
As mini product cards with image, name, and price
You can also choose whether these appear in a row (side by side) or a grid (stacked or tiled).
Step 3: Customize the design
You can change:
The heading text (e.g., “Also available in” or “Choose a color”)
The look and feel (spacing, borders, padding)
Whether out-of-stock products should be hidden
Once everything looks the way you want, just publish the page.
Use Cases
Here are some examples of how stores use product grouping:
Different colors: A candle available in red, green, and gold — each listed separately, but shown together on every page.
Product families: A skin serum, cream, and toner from the same range — grouped for easier browsing.
Pack options: A single, duo, and value pack of the same soap — letting customers switch with one click.
Each item is a separate product, but the shopping experience feels connected.
Troubleshooting / FAQ
Why aren’t grouped products showing up?
Check that the metafields are correctly set up in Shopify, and that the grouping block is added to the product page in Studio.
Will this change the current product page when someone clicks a grouped option?
Yes. Clicking a different product in the group takes the customer to that product’s page.
Can I hide out-of-stock products?
Yes. There’s a setting to hide any items in the group that are unavailable.
Can I decide the order in which products appear?
Yes. The order you list products in the metafield will decide how they are shown.
Is this different from Shopify variants?
Yes. Variants live inside one product. Grouped products are listed separately but shown together. This works well when you want different product pages or unique inventory for each option.
Can each product have its own price and stock?
Yes. Since these are separate products, you can manage everything individually—pricing, stock, descriptions, and media.
