Shopify Search
Last updated: December 24, 2025
Shopify Search is a built-in search system that helps your customers find what they need faster — directly inside your app. It pulls product data from your Shopify store and shows real-time results, smart suggestions, and easy-to-use filters.
Because it's connected to your Shopify account, any product updates, inventory changes, or new collections you set up in Shopify are reflected instantly in your app’s search experience.
Shopify Search also supports collections, articles, pages, and popular search terms, giving shoppers more ways to explore your catalog.
Configuration
You can configure Shopify Search directly through the Studio dashboard. No technical knowledge is required.
How to set it up:
Go to the Integrations section in your Studio dashboard.
If Shopify is already connected to your app, you’re ready to go — Shopify Search uses that same connection.
You can adjust the search experience in your dashboard by:
Choosing how results are sorted (e.g., by relevance, price, or newest).
Selecting what types of results to show — like products, collections, blog posts, or pages.
Customizing your filters using product tags or fields you've set in Shopify.
You’ll need your Shopify store’s domain and storefront access token, which are already set up if Shopify is connected.
Changes apply immediately and don’t require any developer involvement.
Use Cases
Here’s how Shopify Search improves the shopping experience:
1. Instant, Predictive Search
As customers type in the search bar, they’ll see instant suggestions — including products, collections, blog posts, and pages. No need to wait or hit “search.”
2. Easy Product Discovery
Customers can filter results by availability, price, brand, category, or other custom options set up in your Shopify store.
3. Real-Time Inventory Visibility
Only products that are in stock (based on Shopify inventory) will appear, helping reduce customer frustration and cart abandonment.
4. Consistent Experience Across App and Website
Because search is powered by your Shopify data, what shoppers see in your app matches what’s shown on your online store.
5. Support for Synonyms and Smart Suggestions
Shopify Search understands different ways customers describe products (like "jacket" vs. "coat"), helping them find what they want even if the wording is different.
6. Seamless Filtering Experience
Filters show up based on your Shopify settings — such as availability, tags, collections, or custom fields (metafields).
Troubleshooting / FAQ
Q: I’ve set up Shopify Search but filters aren’t working as expected. What should I check?
A: Make sure filters like “Availability” or “Product Type” are enabled in your Shopify Search & Discovery app. Filters won’t appear unless they’re set up in Shopify itself.
Q: Why are some products missing from search results?
A: If products don’t have the “Online Store” channel enabled in Shopify, their details may not be available to the app. Make sure they’re published to the Online Store.
Q: Can I include blog posts or pages in search suggestions?
A: Yes. In your Studio dashboard, enable "articles" and "pages" under Search Suggestions to include them in predictive search results.
Q: How does Shopify Search handle out-of-stock products?
A: You can control whether unavailable items appear in results — either hide them completely or show them at the bottom. This is configured within Shopify or through your dashboard settings.
Q: Why is the login experience slower for some users?
A: For merchants not on Shopify Plus, Shopify doesn’t support fast logins via multipass, which may result in slightly longer login times. This is a Shopify limitation, not related to search.
Q: Can I apply discounts or show tags from Shopify in search results?
A: Yes. Discounted prices and custom tags can appear, as long as they’re configured in Shopify and supported by your storefront setup.
Q: How often is the product data updated in the app?
A: Because the app is directly connected to Shopify, updates happen in real time — including inventory, pricing, product descriptions, and filters.
